Wheel offset comparison
108 offset changes, each showing exactly how far the wheel moves and what it costs in clearance on either side.
Offset moves a wheel one millimetre per millimetre, so the maths is simple — but which direction you can afford depends on what is already tight. Pick a change below, or see the offset chart for the whole range at once.

Positive outer movement means farther toward the arch. Positive inner clearance means more space from the inner rim edge, not proven suspension clearance.
| Change | Wheel moves | Arch clearance | Strut clearance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lower ET number | Outward | Reduced | Increased |
| Higher ET number | Inward | Increased | Reduced |
Worked example: 8J ET35 to 9J ET25
One extra inch of wheel width adds 25.4 mm, split evenly across both edges. Reducing offset by 10 mm then moves the whole wheel outward. The combined result is 22.7 mm more outer poke and 2.7 mm less inner clearance. Across an axle, the outer-edge track increases by 45.4 mm.
This geometry does not inspect brake calipers, suspension movement, hub bore, bolt pattern, load rating or bodywork. Measure both sides of the installed wheel and confirm hardware before buying.
Common questions
What happens when offset decreases?
With width unchanged, a lower positive offset moves the wheel outward by exactly the offset difference and creates the same amount of extra inner space.
Does wheel width affect the comparison?
Yes. Half of the width change is added to each side before the offset movement is applied.
Does this calculator guarantee fitment?
No. It compares declared geometry only. It cannot verify a vehicle, installation, load rating or physical clearance.

How are these fitment figures calculated?
Fitment North calculates declared wheel and tyre geometry from the dimensions shown on the page, using the same tested method as the wheel-offset and tyre-size calculator. Tyre diameter uses rim diameter plus two calculated sidewalls; offset comparisons split width changes across inner and outer edges before applying the offset difference. Results are measurement aids, not vehicle approval. Confirm ratings, clearances and manufacturer guidance before fitting parts.
